How scoring works

Exam format — official (CMS Americas)

• Introductory: ~70 multiple-choice questions, 45 minutes, 60% to pass.
• Certified: three sections, all passed at 60% in one sitting — Theory (45 questions: MC, short answer, math, matching; 38 min), Tasting (4 wines, 2 white + 2 red, written deductive, 45 min), and a practical tableside Service exam.
• Master: three sections at 75%each — oral Theory (50 min), verbal Tasting (6 wines, 25 min), and Hospitality & Service. You pass Theory first, then have three years to pass the rest.

Readiness bars — this app's training model

The green / yellow / red bands and the “ready” alerts use thresholds that are our model, not CMS scoring. CMS publishes formats and pass marks but not the exact per-field tasting points or service weightings, so we set those deliberately:

• • Readiness bars sit abovethe official pass marks (a personal “ready to sit” margin) — e.g. 78% on Certified theory mocks vs. the official 60%.
• • The tasting grid weights structure most heavily (structure > identity > descriptors) — a directional model rubric reflecting how the deductive exam rewards sound structure, not an official point formula.
• • Every one of these numbers lives in editable config and can be tuned as you learn more — they're labeled MODEL in the data, never presented as official CMS scoring.
